On reaching this Colony, one of the first events brought to my notice was the following,
On the 12 Instant, a quantity of treasure consisting of 12,000 Rupees was dispatched from the Commissariat Department to Chek choo, the military post on the south side of the island where a body of European troops are quartered. This was conveyed in a Chinese boat with a native crew, and guarded by five or six soldiers. On approaching close to Chekchoo in the darkness of the night, they were suddenly attacked by a pirate boat carrying ...
